Why do we have weddings? Does it help the bride and groom, to love each other more? No! Does the wedding change the people that are getting married? No! The ceremony gives family and friends and opportunity to see the couple pledge themselves to each other in the presence of others, to make a public announcement of their decision to be wed. It is a ceremony of union. This is what baptism is all about, it is our public announcement that we want to follow The Lord, that we have faith that he forgives us of our sins. The past sins we are now dead too. We are determined to live a new life in Christ. We belong to His body, which is The Church.
