Memory verse: "One Lord, one faith, one baptism." Ephesians 3:5.

         1. What was the message that John The Baptist came preaching? Matthew 3:6 “And were _________ of Him in Jordan, __________ their ___________." Verse 8 “Bring forth therefore fruits meet (worthy) for ________.”

         2.  What did Peter preach?  Acts 2:38 "Then Peter said unto them, ________, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the ________ of _______,  and ye shall receive the gift of The Holy Ghost."

         3.  What did Jesus preach? Matthew 4:17 "From that time Jesus began to preach, and say, _________ for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

         Repent: what does it mean? It is something you do before you are baptized. And very time you sin. It means "A change of mind (not just saying some words, but living out those words.) with sorrow for something we have done, and a wish that it had not been done. The true gospel is repentance or sorrow for sin." Smith Bible Dictionary 260   so repentance includes more than confession of sin through of course this included. It is a new direction of life, a new purpose and attitude on a continuing basis.

         Baptised: The word means “To dip” to immerse. Peter was requiring that everyone be baptized. Through it is not a saving act, it is the outward sign of an inward change. There are steps in the process of becoming a Christian:          

1. Conversion      2.  Repentance

                     3. Baptism              4. and remission of sins

         4. Let us look at the meaning of each of these words.

1.  Conversion: Decision to change the direction of our life.

2. Repentance: The implementing of the conversion. The decision to change and then putting it to practice. 

3. Baptism: The public testimony of the change in our life.

4. Remission of sin: when we ask forgiveness, Jesus forgives us of those past sins, and helps and strengthens us to keep from doing those sins again. We receive the gift of God, which is The Holy Spirit to guide us and give us victory over sin.

         Why do we have weddings? Does it help the bride and groom, to love each other more? No! Does the wedding change the people that are getting married? No! The ceremony gives family and friends and opportunity to see the couple pledge themselves to each other in the presence of others, to make a public announcement of their decision to be wed. It is a ceremony of union. This is what baptism is all about, it is our public announcement that we want to follow The Lord, that we have faith that he forgives us of our sins. The past sins we are now dead too. We are determined to live a new life in Christ. We belong to His body, which is The Church.

         5.  Colossians 2:12 "______ with him in ______, wherein also ye are _______  with Him through the _______ of the operation of God, who hath _____ him (Jesus) from the dead." When we go down under the water we are buried with him. We die to self, our old self is buried, we die to sin. We are raised up out of the water, a new man, to live by faith in God.

         6.  Jesus gave us an example for us to follow. Matthew 3:13 "Then cometh _________ from Galilee to Jordan unto John to be ________ of him." John 3:23 "And John also was baptizing in Jordan , because there was _________  _________ there...."

         7. Jesus said a man must be born of what two things, if he is to enter the kingdom of God? John 3:5 “Jesus said, “...Except a man be born of __________ and of the _________, he cannot enter “The Kingdom of God.”

         8. We read the story of Philip and the Ethiopian in Acts 8:26-36 Read the story.  The lord sent Phillip down in the desert and the spirit said to Philip go join yourself to the chariot in which the Ethiopian was traveling in. Philip aught him from The Bible, He was reading. In verse 36 the Eunuch ask to be baptized. He said, “...There is much water here, what doth hinder me to be baptized?”

         Verse 37 "And Phillip said, if thou ________ with all thine heart thou mayest. And he answered and said I believe that Jesus Christ is “The Son of God.”  Verse 38 “... And they went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he was baptized him.  Verse 39 “And when they were __________ ________ out of the water....” Just like when Jesus was baptized. (Mathew 3:16) Jesus came up out of the water.

         9. How do we know that The Father (God) was at Jesus baptism? Matthew 3:17  "And a voice from ________  saying, this is my _______ ___________, in whom I am well pleased. “The Father spoke these words from heaven.

         10. How do we know The Holy Spirit was there? Matthew 3:16 "And ________,  when He was baptized, went straightway out of the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw The Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him." We see Jesus on the banks of Jordan river, just come out of the water from his baptism, and The Father speaks from heaven, says this is my son. The heavens open and The Holy Spirit comes down like a dove over Jesus.. All three persons of the God head were at Jesus baptism.

         11. In Matthew 3:11, John The Baptist said, “...I indeed baptize you with  ________  unto repentance; but He (Jesus) that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I  am not worthy to bear: ________ shall _________  you with the _______ _______, and with fire.” When Jesus comes into your life He will bring you power for He will send “The Holy Spirit” to abide in you.

         12.  What gift did Peter say you receive at the time of repentance? Acts 2:28 "... _________, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the ________ ________." We see that repentance comes first, with it is forgiveness of sins and then you are given the gift of The Holy Ghost.

         13. When The Lord came to Saul, on the road to Damascus and he was blind for three days, (ACTS 9:9) after his conversion, he received sight, what took place. Acts 9:18 “...And he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. "He wanted all to know. He no longer was killing christians, but he was a converted Christian, a follower of  Christ. God also gave Saul, The new man, a new name. it was no longer Saul but Paul. (Acts 13:9) Who did Paul baptize, as well as her household? Acts 16:14 “And a certain woman named __________ a seller of purple...." Verse 15 “And when she was baptized, and ________ _________...." Wherever Paul went, he baptized Christian converts and formed them into churches, using baptism as the door to the church.
